Towerfall Ascension
Towerfall Ascension, quite often just referred to as Towerfall, is one of the most popular and well-received archery video games in recent times. This is an indie game designed for up to four players and is a modern take on some of the classic archery video games.
It brings together everything that gamers love about this type of game and delivers on excitement, combat and much more.
It takes it inspiration from some of the most well-loved games from recent history but does so with a unique twist. Players will be intrigued by the combination of fun, battle and socialising.
Towerfall Ascension is unlike other modern video games in the sense that it is a local gae, i.e the players must be in the same room. This takes you back to the golden age of couch gaming and encourages players to interact with real-life competitors.
Many people have called for an online version of the game but the creators believe that the best fun can be had when experiencing it with the other players. Many have tried to describe the game and failed; you really much try it to appreciate it.
But it’s all very light-hearted as the battles are nothing short of hilarious thanks to the colorful gameplay and unique characters.
Towerfall is available on the following consoles:
- PlayStation 4
- Xbox One
- Linux

Titan Souls
UK indie studio, Acid Nerve developed Titan Souls and released it in 2015. The game is based around the Titan Souls which inhabit the realm between earth and the world beyond. The Titan Souls are said to be the source of everything living thing in the universe and our hero must embark on a quest to gather the shards of the Titan Soul in order to gain power and truth.
But where does archery come into this, we hear you cry? Well, wouldn’t you know that our hero is armed with nothing but a single arrow. Alright, that wouldn’t get your far in real life but in the virtual world, the possibilities are endless.
As you go through the game, you will meet 19 bosses, each of which will act in a different way. Your job is to figure out how to deliver one critical hit to defeat the boss. But this is not as simple as it sounds.
You will use your one arrow which you must charge before firing it and should you take just one hit, it’s game over and you’ll need to try again. Frustrating? It might well be but this is a game of brains and accuracy.
Titan Souls is available on the following consoles:
- PC
- PlayStation 4
- PS Vita
- Mac
- Linux
Terraria
Terraria is a sandbox game that was first released back in 2011 and it has not waned in popularity since. The game is advertised as being full of mystery and this certainly draws in players in their millions.
You begin the game by building a basic shelter; your base, if you will before moving on to create a world that, until now, only existed in your imagination.
It is very similar to many of the other sandbox type games in that you will dig for ore and various other materials in order to be able to build. But that doesn’t take away from the fun factor!
One of the most exciting things is that you are able to craft magical items and weapons; more than 500 of them, to be precise. You will then use these as you challenge bosses and defend your kingdom.
Among the weapons are several different bows; everything from the tin bow to the platinum bow, the demon bow to the iron bow and who could ignore the molten fury bow?
Terraria is available on the following consoles:
- Windows
- iOS

Mana Spark
If you love an RPG then this is a great choice, particularly if you also have a passion for archery. But don’t be fooled into thinking that this will be an easy adventure; Mana Spark is marketed as being a challenging game, so be prepared to put in the hours if you want to be successful.
One of the things that really sets Mana Spark apart from other similar games is that the enemies are smart. The game features a built-in AI that allows your enemies to plot against you – WITH EACH OTHER! There aren’t many other games that can lay claim to this and this is what makes the game so challenging.
The game is based around the idea that humankind are the weaker beings and while we think we are intelligent, we are no match for other races out there. These races live abundant lives funded by mana but as a human, you have been subject to torture, poverty and a life of inequality.
Your mission now is to fight against these races and emerge victorious. However, all you have is a bow and arrow; but isn’t that all anyone needs?
Fight your way through and find Mana Spark on the following consoles:
- Nintendo Switch
- Mac
- PC
Kid Icarus – Our Classic Pick
Some of the modern archery video games are excellent and the technology that we have today certainly allows you to immerse yourself in a virtual world that almost feels like reality. But is there anything better than a classic? We think not.
Kid Icarus is a game that has been withstanding the test of time since its release more almost 35 years ago, in 1986.
The game is based around a lovable character, Pit who is on a quest to locate three hidden treasures. Once he finds these sacred treasures, he will be able to rescue Angel Land which is a beautiful island inspired by Greek Mythology.
Much like many of the games released in this era, Kid Icarus is a platform game with relatively simple controls. Pit will need to collect various items and fight against monsters along his way, of course, armed with his trusty bow and arrow.
At the end of each section, there are bosses to beat, giving the player something of a challenge and once you do this, you will be rewarded with those all-important sacred treasures.
Kid Icarus has firmly rooted itself in the hearts of many classic gamers and it has elements that appeal to all types of fans. The music is one of the most acclaimed scores for a video game in recent history.
What’s more, the game spans several genres making it ideal to play with other players, even if they don’t share the same interests as your normally where games are concerned.
Kid Icarus was designed for the Nintendo Entertainment System and there was a sequel released for the GameBoy in 1991. Furthermore, 25 years after it’s original release, Nintendo brought out a 3DS version for the modern handheld gaming fan.
